Adrenaline, a great view, overcoming yourself and a lot of fun! Skydiving in Mauritius is a unique experience and one of the best things to do on the island.

Skydive Mauritius has been operating since 2009 from the airstrip of the Mon Loisir sugar estate in Riviere du Rempart and has welcomed more than 25,000 jumpers since then. Every tandem jump is guided by a certified instructor.

I had the opportunity to test [Skydive Mauritius](https://skydivemauritius.com/). Minutes before, I was still not sure if I would dare to jump out of the airplane. All my life I had dreamed of doing this, but in the end I never ventured to do it. Why? After the skydive I don’t know myself.

Coming from Grand Baie, you have to drive straight through Riviere du Rempart. On the left side you can see signs pointing to the driveway of the airstrip grounds. Keep going on a rough dirt road for about one kilometre, and then you are there: a hangar, a little tower and a cosy seating area where you can enjoy the sun and have a drink.

The instructors approach us and welcome me with a friendly smile. First of all I have to fill in a questionnaire. Then I put on a skydiving suit and sturdy shoes. The goggles go on just before we jump out of the airplane.

After a briefing about the procedure, we learn all the different moves you need to know for the jump. Afterwards we board the plane, which is flown by a friendly pilot. With a lot of routine and safety, he brings the airplane higher and higher, while two pairs of skydivers sit in the back.

The two instructors enjoy the beauty of the island every time. Looking at Mauritius from above, seeing the reef down there and the shimmering blue colours is worth the flight! At 10,000 ft, that is to say 3,050 metres, it is time to say: Let’s go!

Bound together with the instructor at four points, the tandem jump can begin. Up to 30 seconds of free fall bring a vast rush of adrenaline. Although I have known Mauritius for a long time, it is even more beautiful from above! After the free fall, the parachute is opened at about 1,500 m (5,000 ft) above the ground. From then on you glide slowly and peacefully towards the ground. The two steering lines allow an exact landing right in front of my friends and family, who are waiting for me.

With a very big grin and the feeling that everything is possible, I land. And I know for sure that this was not the last time I skydived. Luckily, I also booked a video recording, so I can watch the jump again and again!
