# Blue Safari Submarine

> A 40-minute dive to 35 metres in a real submarine from Trou aux Biches, no diving skills needed.

One of the most exciting adventures in Mauritius is to explore the underwater world in a fully functional submarine. Yes, a real submarine! Have you ever been 35 m underwater without getting wet? Maybe it is time to try it.

The meeting point is Blue Safari Submarine in Trou aux Biches, in the north of Mauritius. After the welcome formalities and a brief introduction, the would-be underwater adventurers hop on a boat to the “submarine parking” just outside the lagoon.

The submarine parking is a boat ride away because the submarines are too big to come any closer to the shore. The large boat welcomes its passengers and provides drinks and a breathtaking view.

The submarines, though considered huge, are still smaller than naval submarines and accommodate 10 people, which is actually perfect for an underwater adventure. You will sit next to families, newlyweds and other tourists who want to see the blue side of Mauritius.

A single professional and highly skilled driver navigates and operates the submarine, and he has vast knowledge of the underwater world you will encounter. He sits at the front, while all passengers take a seat behind him next to the windows.

After some short instructions the submarine begins to sink. The dive takes you past a coral reef, a 17th-century sheet anchor and the wreck of the Star Hope, where moray eels live as well as many colourful fish.

The dive itself takes about 40 minutes (the whole excursion about 2 hours) and goes down to a maximum depth of 35 metres. Notice how the colours change with depth, and don’t forget to take photos of the colourful and huge fish that live in the deep water.

Check in at the Blue Safari welcome desk in Trou aux Biches; sessions run hourly every day from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm in summer and until 3.30 pm in winter.
