SKYDIVING MAURITIUS
Adrenaline, good view, self conquest and a lot of fun! Skydiving in Mauritius is an unique experience and one of the best things to do on the island!
Chris from Zimbabwe and Gaetan from Belgium are involved in skydiving since more then 22 years. So they do their job very professionel. Since the mid of 2009 you can make the special experience in Riviere du Rempart on the airport grounds of Skydive Austral.
I had the possibilty to test Skydive Austral. Minutes before I was still not sure if I dare to jump out of the airplane. All my life I was dreaming about this, but in the end I never ventured to do it. Why? Well, after the skydiving I don’t know it myself.
Coming from Grand Baie, you have to drive straight through Riviere du Rempart. On the left side you can see signs, which are hinting at the driveway of the airport grounds. You have to keep on driving on a rough street between one and two kilometers, then you are there: A hangar, a little tower and a cosy seating area, where you can enjoy the sun and have a drink. 
Chris and Gaetan are approaching us. With a friendly smile they are welcoming me. First of all I have to fill in a questionnaire. Then I have to put on a sky diving suit and sturdy shoes. The glasses I have to put on before we jump out of the airplane.
After a briefing about the procedure of the skydiving, we are learning all the different moves you need to know for the jump. Afterwards we are getting in the Cessna. The airplane, well known for it´s reliability, is being navigated by a friendly pilot. With a lot of routine and safety he is bringing the airplane higher and higher, while two pairs of skydivers are sitting in the back of the plane.
The two instructors Chris and Lee are enjoying every time the beauty of the island. Looking at Mauritius from above, seeing the reef down there and the shimmering blue colours is worth the flight! In 10.000 ft, that is to say 3050 meters, it is time to say: Let´s go!
Bound together with the instructor in four points, the tandem jump can begin. 40 seconds of free fall are bringing a vast rush of adrenaline. Although I now Mauritius since a long time, it is even more beautiful from above! After the free fall, the parachute is opened 1 km before the landing. From now on you can glide slowly and peacefully towards the ground. The two steering lines are enabeling an exact landing before the nose of my friends and family, who are waiting for me.
With a very big grin and the feeling that everything is possible I am landing. And I definitly know, that this was not the last time I was skydiving. Luckily, I booked also a video recording. Now I can watch the jump again and again!

HORSE RIDING MAURITIUS
It can be an unforgettable experience for also an experienced as well as an inexperienced horse rider to gallop over the dream island Mauritius.
There are a lot of hotels that can offer horse riding possibilities on the paradise beaches of Mauritius. The hotels that are providing horse riding possibilities are among others Le Pearl Beach Hotel in Flic en Flac, Hotel Ambre and Hotel Belle Mare Plage in Belle Mare, as well as a bit further south the Le Touessrok Hotel, Le Tropical and the Silver Beach Hotel in Trou d’Eau Douce.

Mont Choisy Horse Riding Delights
In the north of Mauritius close to Grand Bay is located the Mont Choisy Sugar Estate. The entire estate is approximately 750 hectares on which, among other things, the sugar is grown. Since April 2004 the Mont Choisy Horse Riding Delights, a historic farm which is located in the hard of the sugar estate, is back in operation.
The farm provides horse riding trips for an hour and a half through the 60 ha of farm property. The farm has a total of 10 ex-race horses that belong to the Mont Choisy Horse Riding Delights. From all the horses that are now here, two are from Argentina, one from Italy and the others are from South Africa.
The Mont Choisy Sugar Estate provides rides through the farm property two times a day. The property is a mixture of forest and grassland and during the ride you might meet other farm animals.
The horses are familiar with the environment so they behave calm and trustful. You can feel that they enjoy the easy going life on the farm after a long carrier as a racing horse.
The funny ride teacher Silva who worked as a jockey for 25 years, will accompany you on the ride. He pays attention to everybody and will explain you some techniques of riding or give you some tips. That gives also beginners the possibility to do the riding trip at Mont Choisy. Anyway every ride starts with a small ride around the paddock to give a small introduction to the guests and to get information about the riding skills of everybody.

A ride for 1½ hours costs Rs 2100 per person. The prices for riding lessons are available on request.
Opening Hours:
The first ride starts at 8.00 am and finishes approximately at 10.00 am. The second ride starts at 3.00 pm and finishes around 5.00 pm.
